In 2012, I started a fresh chapter in my life as the newest member of the Sax ProShop of MusicMedic.com in Wilmington, NC. Little did I know at the time, but I was about to embark on quite the educational adventure, and discover what is now one of my greatest passions: saxophone repair.
Admittedly at first, I knew basically nothing about saxophone mechanics - I had just graduated from UNCSA with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. Prior to taking on this new venture, I had only done minimal tinkering with my own instrument and only had my personal instrument adjusted by a technician, maybe one time - bad, I know!
So, I went to MusicMedic with an open mind, albeit a bit frightened too - what if I couldn't figure this out? I mean, MusicMedic is known around the world for their beautifully meticulous work. What if they made the wrong decision by choosing me, someone with no repair experience, to fill a spot in a growing Saxophone ProShop?

Putting those negative thoughts aside, little by little I began familiarizing myself with all of the intricacies of the saxophone. I started seeing how things went together and how mechanisms worked. I watched my colleagues and asked questions - I figured it out. Eventually I got so comfortable with all of it, I was able to handle the pickiest customers (you know who you are!) all on my own. To this day, I still find it so satisfying when working with clients, making fine adjustments and really customizing the instrument to each individual's specific needs.
The job at MusicMedic was enlightening to say the least. Instrument repair was one facet of the music industry I had never even considered, though I quickly fell in love with doing this type of work. And I could not be more grateful for having the opportunity to learn so much there of all places - what an amazing entry into the repair world!

Nearing the end of 2015, I made a tough decision, but it was time for me to begin yet another chapter in life. In early November, I packed up and relocated to Atlanta to set up my own in-home saxophone repair shop. My goal was not only to build my own small business, but also pursue some of my other passions such as teaching and performing. Since being in Atlanta, I am happy to say that my repair business is continually expanding. Not only have I been lucky to do work for many of the local college students and professors, but I have also had numerous saxophonists send me their instruments from across the country - all because I had built such a great reputation prior to relocating.
